GoodWe’s Hybrid Inverters Once Again Proved Their High Efficiency in HTW’s Energy Storage Inspection 2023

For the third consecutive time, GoodWe, a global PV inverters and energy storage solutions provider, has been the most efficient Asian hybrid manufacturer in the storage inspection of HTW-Berlin (Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft). In this year’s efficiency test of PV-storage systems, GoodWe’s hybrid inverters once again showed high efficiency for both 5 kWp and 10 kWp systems.


A total of 18 different storage systems in the 5 and 10 kilowatts power classes were examined to determine the System Performance Index (SPI) as part of the "Electricity Storage Inspection 2023". The two tested GoodWe hybrid inverters, GoodWe 5kW-EH and GoodWe 10kW-ET, achieved a System SPI of 91.5% and 94.1% respectively together with BYD batteries.


With this exceptional system efficiency, the GoodWe GW5000-EH performed very well and is only 1.1 percentage points away from the best-placed system in the smaller reference case (5 MWh/a consumption with 5 kWp PV system). The GoodWe GW10K-ET also maintained a good position in the second reference case (5 MWh/a consumption with an electric car and a heat pump). Worth mentioning is that GoodWe has launched the upgraded version ET PLUS+ (16A) with greater performance, smart home connectivity and stronger MPPTs, as well as the extension of the ET and ETC hybrid inverter series to the power range of 15-50kW and with the C&I models bringing values of high power generation and charging power for optimal energy harvest. Combined with high-voltage battery Lynx Home F Plus+ Series and the C&I battery Lynx C, GoodWe underlines its leading position in hybrid and energy storage solutions.


The SPI determined by the HTW researchers is an economic index and indicates how much the tested storage system reduces electricity costs compared to ideal energy storage systems. The better the efficiency-related properties, such as conversion efficiencies, control speeds or standby consumption, the higher the cost savings achieved.


Another focus of the study is the design of PV storage systems. The simulations and analyses carried out show that sizing the PV system as well as the storage system according to demand is particularly important from an economic standpoint. The larger the PV system, the higher the avoided CO2 emissions. Any suitable roof surface should be used to produce solar electricity in order to increase the degree of self-sufficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. The use of the two tested GoodWe hybrid inverters 5k-EH and 10k-ET and the installation of a simple PV storage system pays off for a homeowner not only in terms of CO2 emissions, but also financially, as they can break even within seven years. Based on rising energy prices, the payback period will shorten even further.
